Commercial Grade Conical Burrs

Grind Coffee For Any Brewing Method

There are many coffee grinders on the market.  However, few have the ability to grind fine enough for a professional espresso machine and Turkish Coffee. The Virtuoso™ has 40 steps of adjustment.

Calibrated for Turkish Coffee

Just like the commercial grinders Virtuoso have a calibration system.  We calibrate our Virtuoso™ grinders for Turkish coffee before they are shipped to ensure an accurate range of grind for making Turkish coffee.  It makes an absolutely fantastic, powder like Turkish grind with push of a button!

DC Motor

The powerful, high torque 480 watt DC motor effortlessly drives the burrs.  This motor turns slowly resulting in cool, quiet operation and permits long grinding duty-cycles.  The circuitry is equipped with an automatically resetting, thermal cutoff switch.

Unique Speed Control

The Virtuoso™ uses a combination of gear and electronic speed reduction to control the rotation of the burr to 450 RPM. The electronic speed controller is adjustable from 405 to 495 RPM in the event that specific user conditions require modification of the speed. This slow speed reduces heat, noise, and static generation in the grinder. It also ensures that the beans feed smoothly into the burrs. 

Timers switch and Pulse button

The Virtuoso™ has a sixty second timer, with segmented graphics, for easily repeatable grind times.   It also has a front mounted pulse button that manually controls the on/off function.  This is nice if you wish to grind a small amount of coffee for espresso.

If you have an espresso machine, you will enjoy the convenience of being able to grind directly into the filter basket for your machine.  After you remove the coffee grounds bin, you can insert your filter basket (portafilter) directly under the dispensing chute to collect the coffee as it is being dispensed.  You can push the pulse button with your thumb while holding the filter basket for true one hand operation.

Easy to Clean

One important and often overlooked task required of owning a good coffee grinder is routine cleaning.  To clean the Virtuoso™, just remove the coffee been hopper to expose the grinding chamber.  At this point the outer ring burr simply lifts out.  The entire grinding chamber can then be thoroughly cleaned in a few minutes.

Service & Support

Replacement Policy: If you live in the United States and your grinder fails within one year, simply call 877-701-2021. Baratza will deliver an identical or comparable replacement to your door free of charge and arrange to have your “failed” grinder to be returned by sending you a shipping label.  When you receive your replacement grinder, just use the carton and packing material and drop off your “failed” grinder to at any UPS pickup location.

WITH THE PRICE OF COFFEE UP 40% OVER THE PAST YEAR to the highest level in nearly a decade, java lovers are looking for the most bang for their bean. That means grinding it to a uniform size that best suits your coffee maker and the type of coffee you're using. The lighter the roast, some aficionados argue, the finer the grind should be.

How do you get the right grind? Not with a standard blade grinder, which can produce a range of grinds, from powdery to coarse, in the same batch. And with speeds of 20,000 to 30,000 rpm, the whirring blades heat up the beans in the process, reducing the flavor and aroma.

That's where the Virtuoso Grinder comes in. Designed and manufactured by Baratza, a tiny Seattle company whose only business is coffee grinders, it is what's known as a "conical burr" grinder. Its hardened steel burrs slowly slice the beans -- at a slow 450 rpm -- into 40 preset consistencies, from very fine for espresso to coarse for French press, with a wide range in between for drip coffee makers.

The coffee-grinding process produces static electricity that can send the grounds in all directions, but because the Virtuoso's innards are made of conductive plastic, it produces a perfect grind that won't wind up all over your counter.

The downside: It takes some experimentation to find the right setting, but the finished product is well worth it.
