HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR COPPER TURKISH COFFEE POT
With little care, your coffee maker will provide you with many years of service and pleasure. Your coffee maker is made with copper which is the choice of the gourmet professionals for cooking. It is considered the finest practical conductor of heat. It’s primary advantage is that it requires only low to moderate heat to obtain the best results. This is why the copper is the perfect material to use for Turkish coffee pots. It is lined with tin which is the most commonly preferred choice for copper cookware (tin is the silver colored metal inside your pot).
BEFORE USING
Wash your new coffee maker in warm water with a mild soap or dish detergent.
ESSENTIAL PRECAUTIONS
Neverplace your coffee pot in a dishwasher.
Neverboil your pot dry.
Never use metallic utensils to stir your coffee. Use only wood or plastic spoons.
Neveruse steel wool or abrasive pads that could scratch your coffee pot.
CLEANING
You can use the commercially available cleaning materials for copper or tin to clean your coffee pot if you need to, but remember it’s OK to let your pot turn dark. It adds character!
Outside:
Non abrasive pad or sponge is the best.
Inside:
Tin is a soft metal and should be cleaned with a dishcloth or sponge only. Never use abrasive cleaning materials like scouring pads or metal scrapers on your coffee pot.
Rinse thoroughly after washing and dry to avoid spotting.
It is best to rinse it right after use so that residual coffee grinds don’t dry and harden.
Eventually (depending on how well you take care of it) you might want to get it re-lined at a tinsmith (can also be found on the internet) for about $3-5.
HOW USE YOUR
TURKISH COFFEE GRINDER
With little care, your grinder can provide
you with many years of service and pleasure. Here are some guidelines that might help you:
BEFORE USE
·Take off the lid
on top (if it is tight, use a twisting
motion and pull it out. Do not use
any pliers or metal objects to pry it out. This also applies to the bottom canister).Fitting will get better with use over time.
·Take out the
handle for the grinder, which is folded inside the upper hopper.
ESSENTIAL PRECAUTIONS
·Never use your grinder empty. This can
damage the burrs.
CLEANING
·You should not wash
your coffee grinder.However, if you
must, make sure to dry it thoroughly to prevent any rusting.
·Never use steel
wool or abrasive pads to clean your grinder.
·You may use the commercially
available cleaning materials for brass to clean the outside.
HOW TO USE YOUR GRINDER
·Place your coffee
beans into the hopper and close the
lid.
·Unfold and attach the handle to the rod in the center of the grinder.
·Make sure to have some coffee or spices in the hopper
before you start turning the handle.
·Turn the handle clockwiseand hold it
below your hand/wrist so that you are pushing downon it while turning the handle – this will
make sure that the handle does not come off (unlike the smaller grinders that
are made for spices, the 5.5 inch handle on this grinder does not attach to the
mill in order to have the maximum length and strength - the longer the handle;
lesser the force required to turn it – since it is specifically designed for roasted
coffee beans which are very hard). The
handle conveniently folds in half for easy storage in the upper hopper.
·On your first use, it will take several
turns before it starts to grind; because the burrs are empty.
·Adjust the coarsenessby thescrew/bolt at the bottomonly when it is empty. The screw on
the side of the grinder is to stabilize the burs in the hopper. It should be tightened but not too tight.
·Attach the bottom
canister to the grinder to collect your grind.
