Helvacı Hacı Abdullah probably never imagined that his grandsons and their children would proceed of his way, when he was emigrating from Akşehir to Afyon 150 years ago. Today, his fourth generation grandsons are carrying on the production under the name of Akkent Confectionery Food Packaging Industry and Trade Ltd. even after 150 years. Helvacı Hacı Abdullah was one of the first producers who made halvah and grape molasses. He was known for his modest and helpful character and he never hesitate to teach the others. He trained one of his employee, who would be known as Helvacı Hacı Mahmut, to learn all the production business. Later on one of his grandsons married Helvacı Hacı Mahmut’s daughter. The children and grandsons who were born from this marriage, continued on as Akkent Confectionery.

Nihat Akkent learned the production of halvah and confectionery from his grandfather - Helvcı Hacı Mahmut. He established a company with his brother, Mahmut Akkent, in 1977. Then, they become a limited company in 1996 and registered to Afyon Chamber of Commerce as Akkent Confectionery food packaging industry and trade ltd. The production was limited to 150kg/day for the first years. The first products were Turkish delight with cream, Turkish delight with walnut, Turkish delight wit hazelnut and fondant candy. Delights were produced in copper cauldrons. Akkent Turkish Delights were sold just in Afyon until 1980.

Because of the evolving market and customer portfolio, a new and bigger production plant was built in 2005. This new plant has a 4 ton/day capacity and dozen of thype of Turkish delights are produced in stainless steel cauldrons. The products are sold either packaged or in bulk. The products are made with 100% sugar and they are glucose free. High quality fumigated pistachio is used during the production. Excess appetizers (such as walnut, hazelnut, pistachio and etc.) are added to exceed the legal ratios. Turkish delights conserve their freshness during their shelf lives.
