These are made from "simsir" tree and are the preferred choice for wooden spoons. This tree only grows in the mountains of the Black Sea region of Turkey. It a very hard wood so it's not easy to carve it. However they are very health to use because bacteria can not grow on it. Also, once you dip them in olive oil they become impermeable and not effect the flavor of the food. They say, it even makes food tastes better.
