HOW TO TAKE
CARE OF YOUR NICKELIZED TURKISH COFFEE POT
Thank you very much for
purchasing your Turkish coffee maker “cezve”
(pronounced “ jazz-vah” ) from
us. With little care, your coffee maker
can provide you with many years of service and pleasure. . Your coffee maker is
made with copper that has been nickelized and lined with tin; the most
preferred choice for lining copper.
Copper’s primary advantage is
that it requires only low to moderate heat to obtain the best results. This is why copper is the perfect material to
use for Turkish coffee pots. Liquid Measurement of your pot: We use the newly updated glass Pyrex brand
which is considered to be the most accurate measuring cup by professional cooks
in US. Please note that not all measuring cups are
the same because they are made all over the world. You can watch a video about
this on our web site in our library under the category “How to select your
coffee pot size”. Here are some guidelines that will help you in taking
care of your new cezve:
BEFORE USE
·
Fill your pot with only water and bring it to a
boil to rinse it out.
ESSENTIAL PRECAUTIONS
·
Never place your coffee pot in a dishwasher.
·
Never boil your pot dry (this will cause your
tin lining to melt if there is no liquid in the pot).
·
Never use metal utensils to stir your coffee (or
at least be careful). Use wood or
plastic spoons.
·
Never use steel wool or abrasive pads that could
scratch your coffee pot.
·
Never bend the handle to adjust its angle;
it may break and/or cause your pot to leak.
CLEANING
You can use the commercially
available cleaning solutions but since your pot has been nickelized it will not
need shining like copper items without nickelization.
Outside:
·
Non-abrasive pad or sponge is the best.
Inside:
·
Tin is a soft metal and should be cleaned with a
dishcloth or sponge only. Never use
abrasive cleaning materials like scouring pads or metal scrapers on your coffee
pot.
·
Rinse after washing and dry to avoid
spotting. Do not use soap because it
leaves residue.
·
It is best to rinse it right after use, before
residual coffee grinds become dry and hard.
About Tin: Copper is usually lined with another metal and the most
preferred choice is a tin lining. Tin is
the silver-colored metal (when new) inside your pot. It is a liquid metal that is applied over a
wood burning fire so if you see any irregularities in your pot, do not be
alarmed because sparks and ashes may be stuck to the lining. This is normal and in no way interferes with
the properties of the metal. If you see tin lining wearing off your pot
(when copper can be seen), you will
need to get it re-lined by a tinsmith (we recommend Atlantic Re-tinning - www.retinning.com) or discard your pot.
